Aftercare
In the minutes/hours following treatment, you may see increased redness and wheels that have formed on the surface of the skin (these look like small mosquito bites). These wheels typically go away within an hour, and any redness should resolve within 24-48 hours depending on the pigment and sensitivity of your skin. If slight overtreatment occurs (rare, but may happen within the first few sessions while we are learning the best machine settings for your hair and skin), you may notice some small yellow or red scabbing. These scabs heal without issue so long as they are left alone. Don’t pick or exfoliate them away. Allow them to heal naturally to avoid further irritation to the skin. If this occurs, please let us know so we can decrease your machine settings as needed and prevent this from recurring.

Electrolysis treatment uses disinfected and sanitized equipment, and the current delivered into the hair follicle actually has a sterilizing effect under the surface of the skin, which helps prevent infections from occurring from the treatment itself. Your adherence to these simple aftercare instructions will help your skin properly heal in the days following treatment.

Do:
-
Apply ice cubes or clean ice packs to the area in 10-15 minute intervals for the first 1-2 hours after treatment.
-
Keep the area clean and free of any creams, lotions, and makeup for the first 24 hours following treatment.
-
Use gentle astringents such as witch hazel, cool mist, or sea breeze in the first 48-72 hours following treatment.
-
Use hypoallergenic, non-scented gentle soap when washing the area.
-
Wear 50+ SPF on the treated area when exposed to the sun.

Don’t:
-
Touch the area with unwashed hands for the first 72 hours following treatment. This can be hard to remember as we sometimes mindlessly touch the area to compare how it feels before and after treatment. However, the treated follicles are more susceptible to bacteria after the hair has been removed.
-
Shave or exfoliate the area for the first 48-72 hours following treatment for the same reasons as above, as well as to reduce irritation to the healing skin.
-
Wear makeup on treated skin for 24 hours. If you need to, we would recommend purchasing medicated makeup to help prevent infection.
-
Exercise for at least 24 hours following treatment to prevent pigment changes to the skin during the early healing process.
-
Use pools, hot tubs or saunas for 24-72 hours following treatment.
-
Sunbathe! This is so important as healing skin is more susceptible to burning which may lead to hyperpigmentation. If you have to be in the sun, use 50+ SPF on the treated area.
